D-Star
cross-band
repeat on the Icom 2820 with a D-Star HT
- 2820 - In the
digital setting menu set the digital monitor to auto
- 2820 - Program a
UHF simplex frequency on the right band
- 2820 - Program the
VHF D-Star repeater frequency/s on the left band
- 2820 - Leave both
bands in FM mode
- 2820 - Place the
2820 in cross-band mode
- HT - Program in
the UHF frequency that matches the 2820’s right side UHF band
- HT - The HT must
be in duplex mode with a zero offset*
- HT - Set the RPT 1
and RPT 2 call signs
- HT - Put the HT in
DV mode
Notes:
*
It is critical that you have programmed in an
offset on the HT otherwise you may not key up the repeater.
If you are
just extending your D-Star simplex range then the offset is not
required. You can use a
duplex channel instead of the simplex if required.
A
plain FM dual band radio will not work.
Make sure your squelch levels are set
accordingly. If local noise
were to key your radio (2820) an FM transmission would be made on the
repeater
input. This will not key a D-Star repeater but having a
signal on the
input may prevent other users from working the repeater.
To
cross band from VHF to UHF set the UHF repeater
frequency/s on the right band. Then set the VHF simplex* frequency on the left
band. UHF is
always on the right band. VHF is always on the left band.
